Music, Verbosity, and Anything Else

Poll Time!

I must confess my great need to elicit some discussion in my blog; it's been lonely here in MV&AE lately. I too can have blogfriends, right?

Is new music important to you? Really think about this. Would you be content with an endless recycle of classics or current faves you already own or are familiar with?

There are all sorts of corollary discussions ready to squirt out from betwixt my fingers. For now, I'll just start with that.

Hey there. This is Sam, your favorite bass student-Thursdays at 4:30, in case I'm easily forgettable. Hope you're not embarrased that I'm posting a comment. (And if you are, too bad. Take it like a man, why don't you.)

Is new music important?

...do I have the right blog? Did my bass teacher actually ask that question?!

I know that I might be comfortably situated into my own little musical corner, but not having new music is like not having new paintings, or new Broadway plays.

I'll admit that some new music is, in the most mild terms, bad...but music in itself is practically endless. There are hundreds of genres and thousands of musicians...

Case and point, there are people today putting out music that I'm sure even you would approve of.

I understand that lately the airwaves have been burning up with some music that's better left on a piece of paper. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would really prefer just hearing the hum of static, as opposed to hearing Justin "bring sexy back".

Not that sexy left. ANYWAY.

(Note: I just tried to bold "Anyway", so if that doesn't work...I'm a dunce.)

Even though it's not getting enough exposure, the good stuff is there. I've been taking lessons with you long enough to know that if you had your way, you would make everyone appreciate Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, and the complete works of at least five exceptional (and maybe dead)pianists.

That'd be great, but you're not the average bear. Not everyone's as much of a romantic as you are and I would say that most people like some new material when the time calls for it.

I guess it's about time I get around to answering the actual question. On an importance scale of 1 to 10, new music is a ten for me. Am I crazy? No, I just like to mix it up and see what's out there.

That turned into quite the novella...heh. Sorry.

See you Thursday!
